| Viz to release Cinema-ban! |
[24 Mar 2013|09:48pm] |
Viz Media will release the first volume of Rurouni Kenshin: Restoration (aka, Cinema-ban edition) in English on June 4th, 2013.
Source: Viz Media website
I think Glénat will also release it in Europe. I remember reading about it a few months ago, but can't find a source now. To be confirmed, then...
EDIT: tokyo_pt says you can also preorder volumes 1 and 2 from Amazon UK (here and here) and from Amazon FR (also in English, here and here). lonegamer78 also found them on Amazon US. Volume 1 is listed at $5.92, run for it! And while we're at it, volume 1 (but not volume 2) is also available on Amazon CA.

| Fic rec? |
[21 Feb 2013|12:45am] |
Hello everybody,
I was wondering if anyone here has read a (good) AU in which Kaoru is the one wandering and ends up at Kenshin's? There was one on ff.net several months ago, but it has only two chapters and hasn't been updated in months...
I don't know, it would be interesting to see what would happen if their dynamics were reversed... So, any recs?
Thanks in advance! :)

| Live-action "Rurouni Kenshin" review from LA Eiga Fest |
[15 Dec 2012|03:03am] |
WOOOO!!! So happy! Even with the wet weather! And navigating Hollywood.
As some of the few reviews in English have noted, Western viewers will have to set aside Western expectations of a action/drama movie due to cultural differences. Rurouni Kenshin is no different, and it might make it all the more difficult for RK fans, the big fans especially (yours truly included). I'll avoid as much spoilers as possible, so those of you that have pre-ordered the DVD/BD, you can breathe in relief. Onwards!

| Rurouni Kenshin fic: Truce, 1/? |
[09 Dec 2012|07:48pm] |
|
Title: Truce Chapter: 1/? Rating: PG Summary: Somehow, he couldn’t help but notice the young woman who dared walk the streets of Kyoto alone after dark and wielded only a bokken. It was only a matter of time before their paths crossed. Warnings: None. Notes: Mandatory Bakumatsu AU, because there are only 12094389701 of those. :P I’d love to play with it some more, if I can come up with a somewhat original plot for it! Disclaimer: Would I be flailing so hard over not having seen the live-action movie if I owned RK? Didn’t think so. The first time he sees her, she has her back to a wall and is fighting off three men.
I hope you like it! :D

| Ho ho ho! DVD & Blu-ray release date! |
[31 Oct 2012|10:22pm] |
The Live-Action DVD & Blu-ray will be released in Japan on December 26th! Sato Takeru himself made the announcement! The video has no subtitles, but it has "2012.12.26 Blu-ray&DVD on sale" written. It doesn't get much more explicit than that! I'll update the post as soon as I find a subtitled one. Unless anyone can summarize/translate?
ANYWAY, who wants a late Christmas present? :D :D :D
The Blu-ray, at least, will have two editions: a super-duper-ultra-shiny one here, and a regular one here.

Hey all! For those who have accounts with Shonen Jump Alpha you read the latest One-Shot of Ruroken! It show what takes place only days before he arrives at the Kamiya Dojo. Read it myself and its not bad in my opinion.

That's right, Christmas is getting closer!! :D
Here's the article from AnimeNewsNetwork:
Keishi Ōtomo's live-action film adaptation of Nobuhiro Watsuki's Rurouni Kenshin manga has been licensed for overseas distribution in over 66 countries. The countries span Europe, Latin America, and Asia and include Germany, Mexico, and Taiwan. In addition, the rights for another 17 countries are under negotiations. Back in Japan, the film has been seen over 1 million times as of Saturday, the eighth day of its theatrical run which started on August 25. In particular, it was seen 103,447 times on August 29 alone; that day was a weekday, but it was also a "Ladies Day," the traditional day for discounted prices for female moviegoers. As of Saturday, the film has earned 1,213,540,000 yen (about US$15.49 million). The film's stars Takeru Satoh (Kamen Rider Den-O, Rookies, Beck) and Emi Takei (Kyō, Koi o Hajimemasu, For Love's Sake/Ai to Makoto), along with director Ōtomo, appeared at a surprise onstage greeting at Tokyo's Shinjuku Piccadilly theater on Sunday to reveal the news. The post-screening event capped off a whirlwind two-day tour of eight cities — Sapporo, Sendai, Nagoya, Kyoto, Osaka, Hiroshima, Fukuoka, and Tokyo. Satoh not only expressed his joy at seeing the fan support during this cross-country tour, but also at the announcement of the wide international release plans. "It's a dream come true." Takei added that this is the first time she has taken part in such a cross-country theater tour for a hit film, and that she is delighted so many people from grandfathers to children are seeing the film. Ōtomo noted that he studied abroad, so the news of the widespread overseas plans had special meaning for him personally. The film's teaser trailer and full trailer (shown below) have already been translated into English, Spanish, French, and Chinese.
Now, to find a list of those 66 countries (and 17more to come!) and rejoice! :D :D 1 million viewers in a week.... OMG AWESOME. WE'RE A LUCKY FANDOM!

| Rurouni Kenshin fic: Swimming Home |
[27 Aug 2012|08:02pm] |
|
Title: Swimming Home Rating: G Summary: Kenshin dreams after the fight against Shishio, dreams while others struggle to keep him breathing. Notes: This is sentence #41 from my 1sentence claim turned into a drabble. It's titled "Swimming Home" because the original idea was born when I tried to reconcile the song with the RK universe. I also wrote it while sick, so I hope it makes sense ^^". Disclaimer: A Kenshin is high on my Christmas list, which means that, no, the series isn't mine.
FANGIRL MOMENT: The live-action movie went straight to NUMBER 1!!!! The more successful it is in Japan, the more likely an international release and sequels become!!! It's getting great reviews too, from critics and fans alike, so congratulations to all involved for doing an amazing job!!! :D :D :D :D *dances in glee*
It's here at my LJ. I hope you like it! :)
